Standard of Care
Care of Sanctuary Horses
The devoted care of the sanctuary horses is the single
most important activity at Beyul ranch. Serving the needs of the horses takes precedence over all other things.
Comfort
The overall comfort of the horses is addressed first by attending to their housing. This includes shelter from the elements, bedding for
restful napping, fresh water and ergonomic feeding systems.
Diet
A customized equine diet of forage-type hay plus specific vitamins, supplements, pellets and maintenance medication is designed to meet each horse's individual nutritional and health needs.
Dignity
It is important at all times to maintain the instinctual integrity of the horses while also respecting the individual dignity of each horse. Although you will find their stories on our website, you will never see traumatic pictures of their injuries or their poor condition prior to their arrival at the sanctuary.
Enrichment
Emotional connections with their caregivers, playful interaction with other horses (though sometimes restricted due to physical limitations), toys and regular game-like activities enrich the horses' lives. All help to keep their minds and emotions engaged and involved.
Environment
We strive to create a peaceful, safe, and stimulating environment for the horses, one in which they feel comfortable just being horses. They are able to see their immediate surroundings and the daily sanctuary activities, plus they are able to see distant activities along the surrounding elevated hillsides.
Medical Care
Quality medical care is also an important piece in the
overall care and well-being of the horses. This includes both naturopathic and allopathic medicine.
